Banjaar Tola
A tented lodge on the banks of the Banjaar River, beside Kanha National Park
Banjaar Tola is a Taj Safari lodge on the bank of the Banjaar River in Madhya Pradesh, spread across around 90 acres of private sal forest, grassland and a seasonal lake, with the green ribbon of the river separating it from the forests and meadows of Kanha National Park. It opened in 2008 and has two camps of nine tents each, eighteen in all, built on stilts so that each tent looks out over the river and the park from a floating verandah behind glass doors. Inside, the tents have a living room, an ensuite bathroom with a free-standing bathtub, contemporary interiors with local Bastar artwork and block-printed upholstery, and a private deck. Each camp has its own pool and its own lounge and dining areas, the Jiva spa offers treatments including massages on private decks, and dinners are served by lantern light in the sal forest. Guests can also join cooking classes, watch birds along the river, take guided nature walks and visit nearby villages, and children's programmes are available on request.
