Pench Tree Lodge

A treehouse lodge on the edge of Pench Tiger Reserve

Pench Tree Lodge stands on a property of around 40 acres, only a small part of it built on, in the Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh near the village of Kurai on the edge of Pench Tiger Reserve, the forest landscape associated with Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Guests stay in six sal wood treehouses raised among the trees, with the timber treated with seed oil instead of chemicals to protect it from termites, or in a set of cottages built in the same style. Each treehouse has a private verandah, a large bed with mosquito netting, air conditioning, an en suite bathroom with organic toiletries and a tea and coffee pantry. The cottages are larger and laid out over two levels, with a bed on each, which gives families and groups travelling together room to spread out while keeping the same sal wood construction, air conditioning, private bathroom, balcony or patio, desk and in-room safe. Meals are served in the on-site restaurant, where much of the produce comes from the lodge's organic kitchen garden and the rest is bought from nearby villages, and evenings can be spent by the outdoor pool, in the lounge and bar, or in the library. Safaris into the reserve are accompanied by the lodge's naturalists, with the Karmajhiri and Jamtara gates within a short drive, and the surrounding forest is home to civets, deer, leopards and tigers. The lodge follows a sustainability approach built on local sourcing and a reduced carbon footprint.

What we love about Pench Tree Lodge

  • Treehouses and cottages

Six sal wood treehouses stand among the trees, each with a private verandah. The two-level cottages are larger, with a bed on each level, and are suited to families and groups travelling together.

  • Food from the garden

The restaurant uses vegetables from the lodge's organic garden and ingredients from nearby villages.

  • Sustainability by design

Timber is treated with seed oil instead of chemicals, and the lodge sources locally to keep its carbon footprint low.
